Become a Friend of the David Hume Institute

The David Hume Institute is a charitable, non-profit organisation funded entirely by donations. Our work would not be possible without support from individuals and organisations who share our commitment to impartial evidence-based research and debate.

As a Friend, you will be joining a community of individuals passionate about research, objective analysis, thoughtful discussion and reasoned debate. You will have the opportunity to learn first-hand about our research and impact on policy development and join smaller Chatham House discussion events.

You can give a single or recurring donation through our Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) donation page or contact us directly to arrange a standing order. We really appreciate recurring donations as they help us to plan ahead and reduce administration.

Support DHI as a partner organisation

Promoting and growing thought leadership is an important part of what we do. Financial donations and in-kind support help us to build mutually beneficial relationships. Donations of money, space and expertise help to cover our running costs as well as contributing to:

  • high quality independent and impartial research and briefings

  • roundtables and other events that bring together experts, decision makers and stakeholders to bring diversity of thought to important topics

We are always grateful for financial donations but in-kind support such as use of venues, catering and volunteer time are also very welcome.

If you want to promote diversity of thought or feel your organisation could benefit from working with us we’d love to hear from you. Contact us to discuss options.

Support DHI through the Edinburgh community lottery

Like all charities, we have a constant eye on new ways to generate income in order to continue to deliver independent research and events. We are delighted to be part of the Edinburgh Community Lottery.

This community lottery gives participants the chance of winning £25,000 each week from every £1 ticket, whilst raising vital income for charities. DHI receives 50p from each ticket we sell, another 10p goes to other good causes in Edinburgh. The remainder goes to the prize fund and running costs. For anyone that likes the thrill of lottery, this is a great option to help DHI raise funds at no cost to the charity.

Leaving a Legacy

A legacy is a gift made in a will. It is a way to continue to be a positive influence on progress and change, remember a life well lived, or commemorate a loved one. Many think of a gift in a will as a large and complicated donation, but it doesn’t have to be. A gift of any size will have a significant impact. In most cases gifts will be tax free and can reduce any inheritance tax on your estate.

If you have already written your will and are planning to leave us a gift, thank you very much. Please consider letting us know, so that we can invite you to join the David Hume Institute’s Chair’s Circle and thank you appropriately.
