"The NHS in Scotland: no more repeat prescriptions?"

Professor Brian Main, Director of The David Hume Institute said: "The aim of this series is to provide a forum for discussion of some of the major devolution policy issues and developments which have been on Scotland's political agenda in the past 3 years and which continue to confront the Scottish Parliament. The Institute is delighted to welcome Professor Woods to discuss aspects of Health Service policy and it is expected that there will be lively and informed discussion following this seminar".

Professor Woods is the William R. Lindsay Professor of Health Policy and Economic Evaluation in the University of Glasgow, a chair newly established in August 2000. Prior to this appointment he was Director of Strategy and Performance Management for the National Health Service in Scotland. In this post he was responsible for hospital and community health services policy, strategic planning, and performance management on behalf of Scottish Executive Ministers. He has held a number of general management positions in the English NHS, including that of Regional General Manager of the Trent Regional Health Authority. Before joining the NHS he was Lecturer in Health Care in the University of London, and has also held academic positions at the University of Manchester, and the Flinders University of South Australia. His current research interests are the impact of political devolution on the NHS, health services integration and health care funding. He was elected Chair of the Scottish Association of Mental Health (SAMH), Scotlands largest mental health charity, in November 2000.
